Born in Surrey in 1933, Claudia moved to Wales with her family in 1946.  She trained at Chelsea School of Art from 1950 to 1953.

As a child, Claudia’s gift for draughtsmanship was evident and she won several national prizes and scholarships for her drawings. At the age of sixteen she attended Chelsea School of Art, where, again, her draughtsmanship was recognised with a scholarship. After Chelsea, she returned to Wales to marry Gwilym Prichard in 1954, and so begin a remarkable shared life of painting and homemaking, bringing up their four children and exhibiting.

Both Claudia and Gwilym were already well-established figures in the Welsh art scene before moving to the European mainland and eventually settling in France, where they soon consolidated their success. Each was awarded the Silver Medal by The French Academy of Arts, Sciences and Letters in 1995, and was also elected to the Salon des Beaux Arts in Paris having lived in Brittany for 15 year. They returned to Wales in 2001.

Claudia’s paintings and drawings have always reflected the domestic world of children and grandchildren, family gatherings and seaside trips. Her obvious love of the subject matter, allied with a rigorous eye for composition, her use of colour, and the quality of her draughtsmanship, all combine to produce paintings of great integrity. She creates works with wide appeal while avoiding sentimentality.

Her work has been widely exhibited over the past 40 years and is included in many public and private collections.
