John Petts (1914-1991) is one of the outstanding wood-engravers of the twentieth century. His prints feature the Welsh landscape and the people of Wales. In 1935, John Petts and his first wife the artist Brenda Chamberlain, abandoned their studentships at the Royal Academy Schools, London for a rundown farmhouse in Snowdonia. They started the Caseg Press in 1937. The press produced Christmas cards and bookplates, together with illustrations for the Welsh Review, a monthly literary periodical.

Cydnabyddir John Petts (1914 - 1991) fel un o engrafwyr pren gorau'r ugeinfed ganrif. Cynhwysa ei argraffiadau dirlun a phobl Cymru. Yn 1935, gadawodd Petts a'i wraig gyntaf, yr arlunydd Brenda Chamberlain, eu haddysg yn ysgol yr Academi Brenhinol yn Llundain am dy fferm yn Eryri. Yno, sefydlodd y ddau Gwasg y Gaseg ym 1937. Cynhyrchwyd cardiau Nadolig a llyfrau, yn ogystal a darluniau ar gyfer 'Welsh Review', cylchgrawn llenyddol gan y Wasg.
