Sigrid MÜller
Biography
Sigrid Müller b.1962 trained as a book illustrator in Germany. She moved to Swansea in 1996 and since then has been working as a full time professional artist.
Her paintings of flowers and fruit are lyrical, erotic and very beautiful. With a remarkable level of skill she draws her subjects with layer upon layer of very fine pencil crayon over richly textured watercolour washes. The relationship or tension between the flower and the background is very important.
She is not interested in the mere appearance of things. Her paintings are imbued with the knowledge of how these objects feel to the touch – from the papery, crumpled petal of a poppy to the soft smoothness of a plum. It is an emotional response.
Sigrid says of her work:
'My paintings could be described as portraits of flowers. It is a meticulous process which can take several weeks from the preliminary sketch to the finished painting. For me, one of the most exciting moments in the life of a flower is when the bud opens. It can be a slow unfolding or a more dramatic bursting out. I feel this tension'.
Collections include The National Museum of Wales and The National Botanic Garden of Wales.

Wedi'i geni yn yr Almaen yn 1962, ble bu'n astudio a gweithio fel cynllunydd graffigol, symudodd Sigrid MÜller i Abertawe yn 1996 a gweithio fel artist proffesiynol yn llawn amser.
Ers hynny, mae Sigrid wedi gwneud dylanwad mawr gyda'i pheintiadau prydferth, ambell waith yn erotic, o flodau. Gyda'i dull manwl a'i defnydd o greon dros ddyfrlliw, mae gwaith Sigrid yn fwy nag astudiaethau botaneg, ond yn hytrach yn beintiadau go iawn, gyda bywyd a naws eu hunain. Mae'r tensiwn rhwng y blodyn a'r cefndit yn bwysig iawn.
Nid oes diddoredeb ganddi yn unig yn y ffordd y mae pethau'n edrych. Mae ei pheintiadau wedi'u gyrru gan ei gwybodaeth o'r ffordd y mae'r gwrthrych yn teimlo i'r cyffwrdd - o betal papuraidd pabi i lyfnder meddal plwm. Mae'n ymateb emosiynnol.
Disgrifia Sigrid ei gwaith:
'Gellir disgrifio fy ngwaith fel portreadau o flodau. Mae'n broses manwl sy'n gallu cymryd sawl wythnos rhwng y darlunio cychwynol i'r peintiad gorffenedig. I fi, y foment mwyaf cyffrous mewn bywyd blodyn yw'r amser blaguro. Gall fod yn ddatblygiad araf neu'n rhwyg dramatig. Rwy'n teimlo'r tensiwn.'
