Lorraine Mainelli
Lorraine Mainelli was born in North East USA in 1954. She studied in Swain School of Design, New Bedford where she received her MA in Painting in 1976, and subsequently in Parsons School of Design, New York where she attained an MFA in Painting in 1984.
She has spent many years painting between the US and Europe, and in 2005 began a year long painting trip through Europe starting from Carrog in Denbighshire. Her work is a direct response to the landscape, and she was immediately absorbed by the particular beauty of rural Wales. The drop and rise of the hills, black deep shadows, and landscape of working farms stayed in her mind and led her to return and settle in Carrog.
