John Macfarlane

Born in Glasgow in 1948, John Macfarlane trained at Glasgow School of Art. He now regards Wales as his home, having lived here since 1975.

John has pursued parallel careers in painting and theatre design and is now recognised as one of the world’s foremost designers for opera and ballet, having worked for many of  the world's leading opera and ballet companies. (Scroll down to see some of productions he has designed)

Having exhibited his paintings and design drawings throughout Europe, John has become one of the most collectable of contemporary artists/designers. His work hangs in many prestigious public collections including the National Museum of Wales.


 Yn ôl

Ganwyd John Macfarlane yn Glasgow yn 1948 ac addysgwyd yn Ysgol Gelf Glasgow. Yn awr, gwel Cymru yn gartref iddo, gan iddo fyw yma ers 1975.

Cyd-reda dwy yrfa - peintio a chynllunydd theatr ac y mae yn cael ei gydnabod fel un o arweinwyr y byd cynllunio theatr opera a ballet , wedi iddo weithio i nifer helaeth o brif  gwmniau opera a ballet y byd.

Wedi arddangos ei beintiadau a'i gynlluniau ledled Ewrop, mae John wedi datblygu i fod yn artist nodedig â galw am ei waith. Mae ei waith yn cael ei harddangos mewn nifer i gasgliad cyhoeddus - gan gynnwys Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru.
