John Knapp-Fisher RCA
John Knapp-Fisher was born in 1931. Following studies in Graphic Design at Maidstone College of Art from 1949, John worked in exhibition design and later for the theatre as a designer and scenic artist. In 1958, while based in London, he began to concentrate on painting and exhibiting.
His lifelong love of boats and the sea - he built them, sailed them and later lived aboard one for several years, is reflected in much of his subject matter, as is the Pembrokeshire landscape, where he has lived and worked since 1965. Indeed, his name has become synonymous with Pembrokeshire landscape painting.
John has exhibited widely in Britain and abroad, developing a large and loyal following. He is now one of Wales’ most popular and well-known artists and his work is represented in many public and private collections. These include the National Museum of Wales Cardiff, The National Library of Wales, Aberystwyth and The Contemporary Art Society of Wales. He was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1992.

Ganwyd John Knapp-Fisher yn 1931. Yn dilyn ei addysg ar y pwnc cynllunio graffeg yng Ngholeg Celf Maidstone yn 1949, gweithiodd fel cynllunydd arddangosfeydd a chynllunydd celf golygfeydd yn y byd theatr. Yn 1958, tra’n byw yn Llundain, dechreuodd ganolbwyntio ar beintio ac arddangos ei waith.
Mae ei gariad gydol-oes at y môr ac at gychod yn amlwg yn ei destun a’i waith- adeiladodd, hwyliodd a bu’n byw ar gwch am rai blynyddoedd. Testun arall yw tirwedd Sir Benfro ble y bu’n byw a gweithio ers 1965. Yn sicr mae ei enw yn gyfystyr a pheintio tirlun Sir Benfro.
Mae John wedi arddangos ei waith ledled Prydain a thramor, gan ddatblygu casgliad ffyddlon o ddilynwyr. Mae bellach yn un o artistsiad mwyaf blaengar Cymru ac mae ei waith yn gynhwysiedig mewn nifer i gasgliad cyhoeddus a preifat- Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Cymru, Caerdydd; Llyfrgell Genedlaethol Cymru, Aberystwyth a Chymdeithas Celf Gyfoes Cymru i enwi ond rhai. Cafodd ei ethol yn aelod o Academi Brenhinol Cambria yn 1992.
