Biography

Born in Leicestershire in 1964, as a child Sarah moved to Llannefydd in the North Wales hills and is a fluent Welsh speaker. She studied Art in Wrexham and in Loughborough College of Art before returning to North Wales, where she taught Art & Design at Secondary and FE level before deciding to concentrate on her own work.

Sarah now works solely from her Denbigh studio where the main focus of her work is oil painting, slightly abstracted in style, applied by palette knife in impasto swathes, working from sketches drawn on location in the Welsh landscape.

Artists that have inspired her are Nicolas De Stael, David Bomberg and Welsh artists Peter Prendergast and Kyffin Williams.

Sarah has recently started exhibiting with us and has already proved to be one of our most popular artists. Her first solo show at the gallery in January 2009 was a complete sellout, and demand for her work seems set to increase further.

Wedi'i geni yn Sir Caerlyr ym 1964, magwyd Sarah yn Llannefydd, Clwyd ym mynyddoedd Gogledd Cymru and mae'n siarad y Gymraeg yn rhugl. Astudiodd  yn Wrexham a cyflawni gradd celf yng ngholeg celf Loughborough cyn dychwelyd i Ogledd Cymru i ddysgu celf a chynllunio ar lefel addysg uwch ac addysg bellach cyn penderfynu canolbwyntio ar ei gwaith peintio ei hun.

Gweithia Sarah o'i stiwdio yn Sir Ddinbych. Ffocws ei gwaith yw paent olew, mewn arddull abstract, wedi'i beintio'n impasto a thrwchus gyda chyllell a'r gwaith wedi'i symbylu gan y perthynas rhwng tir, yr awyr a'r arfordir, a gweithia o ddarluniau byw o'r tirlun.

Artistiaid sydd wedi dylanwadu arni yw De Stael, Bomberg ac artistiaid Cymreig Peter Prendergast a Kyffin Williams.
