Keith Bowen RCA
1950 Born Wrexham, Denbighshire, North Wales
1969-72 Manchester Polytechnic, Faculty of Art & Design, Department of Graphic Design
1997 Awarded Honorary Fellowship of the University of Wales
Born in North Wales in 1950, Keith Bowen has exhibited extensively and received justifiable acclaim. Amongst a host of awards, he has twice received the Gold Medal for Fine Art at The Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales, and in 1992 he was elected a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy. Two Royal Mail Stamps and two books ‘Snowdon Shepherd’ and ‘Among the Amish’ – feature his paintings of the countryside.
Keith writes of his work:
“For the first time at the age of twelve, I stood on the top of Snowdon; I had found something that I wanted to do and somewhere that I wanted to be. Forty-five years later, I am still stumbling around the Welsh hills, and I still feel that initial excitement and fascination with the place. However, these days, I am as likely to visit those remote places that are away from the high peaks, places that are neglected and unremarkable, the forgotten, old and strange back country: Y Cefn Gwlad."

“Yn ddeuddeg mlwydd oed, am y tro cyntaf, sefais ar ben yr Wyddfa; roeddwn wedi ffeindio man yr oeddwn am fod ynddi a rhywbeth yr oeddwn am ei wneud. Pum mlynedd a deugain yn ddiweddarch rydw i’n dal i grwydro hyd fryniau Cymru ac yn parhau i deimlo’r cynwrf a’r hudoliaeth cyntaf. Ond, y dyddiau yma, rydw i’n fwy tebygol o ymweld â’r mannau cuddiedig, i ffwrdd o’r prif begynau, mannau heb fawr o atyniad gweledol, yr anghofiedig, y dibwys a’r hen: Y Cefn Gwlad"
